Reconstruction of Ukraine: An Incubator of Ideas in the Heart of Japan

On May 27, 2025, the Honorary Consul of Romania in Katowice, Professor Krzysztof Zamasz, participated in a conference titled ‘Polish-Japanese Cooperation in the Reconstruction of Ukraine’ at the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Tokyo. The event was part of the program associated with Poland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The conference, organized by the Union of Entrepreneurs and the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Tokyo, was held under the honorary patronage of Paweł Kowal, the Government Plenipotentiary for the Reconstruction of Ukraine.

The conference primarily focused on Ukraine’s reconstruction efforts, emphasizing economic and technological aspects through trilateral cooperation between academic institutions, private sector entities, and governmental bodies.

The event was initiated with inaugural speeches by the Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Tokyo, Tomasz Gwozdowski; Chargé d’affaires of Ukraine to Japan, Oleksandr Semeniuk; Managing Director for Russia, Eastern Partnership, Central Asia, and Regional Cooperation at the European External Action Service (EEAS), Michael Siebert; Senior Director of the Office for Ukraine Crisis Response, Recovery and Reconstruction at JICA, Hibino Takashi; CEO of the PKP Group and Chairman of UIC, Alan Beroud; Legal Advisor to the Polish-Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Hiroya Tanaka; and Vice President of the Union of Entrepreneurs and Employers (ZPP), Marcin Nowacki.
